Tracking your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch

One of the key features of the mobile me software extra for iPhones, iPad’s, or iPod touches’ was the ability to remotely locate it. This extra is now free for all 4th generation versions of these devices that run ios 4.2. This means that if you lose your phone anywhere, you can always go onto your computer at home, and find where your phone is. Along with finding your phone, this service also allows you to lock it with a special password, to wipe the memory, or to display a message and play a sound. Now here is a walkthrough that can also be found in <<http://www.apple.com/iphone/find-my-iphone-setup/>> .

For the sake of this walkthrough, you are trying to install the tracking software onto your iPhone.

  1. First of all, check if your iPhone is running iOS 4.2, which is the latest software update possible. If you are not sure if you are running this, try to Sync your iPhone and click the button marked with “check for updates”. On another note, if this is the first time you are creating a free account, you would need an iPhone 4.
  2. For the next step, you should turn on your iPhone, and click on the Settings App, which looks like a large gear. Inside that App, choose the Mail, Contacts, Calendars bar.
  3. Inside that, select the Add Account, which will be the first option you get. Inside the Add Account menu, click on MobileMe. On a side note, MobileMe is the software that you would normally buy, and includes many more extras on top of tracking.
  4. Inside MobileMe, follow the instructions and enter your Apple ID and password. If you do not have an Apple ID, click on the Create Free Apple ID on the bottom of the screen. If you are already a MobileMe user, enter your “me.com” or “mac.com” address and password.
  5. Now you have to verify. If your MobileMe account says “not verified”, then check you email that you provided to Apple. Inside, there should be a message from apple. In that message, click verify now, and sign in. If there is no email, click on your MobileMe account and select the option to Resend the Verification Email.
  6. With that done, return to the MobileMe screen. Inside there, switch “Find My iPhone” from off to on. When a permission email appears, tap “Allow”.

Once you have done this, your iPhone is ready for action. Sign in to me.com from a computer, and you will see your phone, where it is, and a list of options. This entire process can be used for iPads and iPod Touches. This amazing software just became free, and if you have the right generation and the right software, it would be a shame to pass up the opportunity.

The Magic Trackpad, a whole different story

The Magic Trackpad is a new and totally awesome device by Apple. The Trackpad takes over and lets your fingers do all the work. It does away with a mouse and lets the user have a more hands on experience. You can do all the same features with the Trackpad as you can with a mouse. You can still scroll, swipe, and click but without a mouse there. The Magic Trackpad makes your Mac desktop experience the same as if you had a MacBook Pro with you. The Magic Trackpad gives the user a feeling as if theyhad a full set of devices in their hands on one device. When swiping through a page, it feels as if you are flipping through a book. The Magic Trackpad is completely wireless and is powered by Bluetooth technology. The Magic Trackpad has the same features as the MacBook Pro but with 80% more area. It gives the user more space to work with and freedom. You may be thinking that it doesn’t fit with the keyboard though. There is an upside to it, the Trackpad is exactly the same length as the keyboard and side by side, they fit perfectly. The battery life is amazing on the Trackpad. It has an on and off switch so that you can not just days, but months of battery life. It works up to 33 feet away from your desktop.

Wow, the Magic Trackpad definitely has blown me away. How Apple ever invents these devices completely bewilders me. This device does away with your mouse and gives the user a lot more freedom. This doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of your mouse, but it gives you more options. Apple also lets you change the types of scrolling you want. Apple lets you change the features they have set for you. It makes the user feel as if they are free to do what they want without being held back. I definitely think that the Magic Trackpad is a complete upgrade over anything Apple has come out with in awhile. Sure they may have their many devices with the new iTouch, iPhone, MacBook Air, and on and on, but the Magic Trackpad is a whole different story.

Sports Apps

People always ask me, what is your favorite App. The minute almost anyone gets asked this question, they immediately think about their favorite games. dr squatch sydney sweeney I was the same. I was wondering, did I like Angry Birds or Cut the Rope more, or maybe I am just a big fan of Doodle Jump. Then I remembered a sunday when my beloved Baltimore Ravens were playing in the playoffs, and I had to stay at an even without a TV or computer for the entire day. If it wasn’t for the ESPN Score Center App, I would have never made it through those few hours when I knew they were playing, much less the entire day. Therefore, I have to say the best Apps ever created are Sports apps. They are the unsung heroes, the dark horses of the app world. Now, not everyone even knows apps like these exist, much less how to find them. Well, here is an easy “walkthrough” on how to find some of these apps. 1   First go to the Apple website

2   You will see the home page up in front of you. On the left hand side, there is a search bar. Enter in “sport apps”

3   Apple will give you a list of results for “sports apps” . Click on the first result labeled “Web apps – Sports”

4    There it will display many pages of Apps that can be sorted by popularity, how recently they were uploaded or alphabetically. The important thing about these Apps aren’t that they have amazing graphics, which they don’t, or even that they are fun to watch, which they aren’t because loading times can be terrible. The important thing is that they give you the information you want, when you want it.

iOS 4.2 Software Update Released Today: The Breakdown

If you’ve been to the Apple website recently, you may have noticed the “iOS 4.2 is here” button under the huge Beatles sign. This seemingly insignificant link is actually a major, much anticipated update for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

What’s so great about this update?

Well, for iPad users, this update is the long awaited entry into the features introduced the the iPhone with the release of iOS 4.0.

Multitasking

That’s right: Multitasking on the iPad. This popular iPhone feature finally makes it way to the iPad and, I have to say, I’m impressed. I have been waiting for this feature to appear on my iPad for a long time, and the wait is finally over. As I do not own an iPhone, I was unfamiliar with this feature, and was surprised at how quickly I learned how to use it and how helpful it really is.

Folders

Folders, another popular iPhone feature, is also making its debut on the iPad. This allows iPad users to keep their apps organized in simple to use folders on the Home screen. This makes it easy to find your favorite apps, as well as prevents you from having to look through 5 pages of apps to find a calculator.

Game Center

Game Center, the iPhone/iPod Touch service that allows you to compete with your friends and see their scores on select applications finally makes its way to the iPad. Now you can finally prove that you are better at Real Racing HD or Flight Control HD than your friends!

——

Sure, this is great for iPad users, but what about my iPhone? Well, there are also a couple cool new cross-platform features.

AirPrint

The first of these is AirPrint, the new feature, integrated into specific apps, which allows you to print to any printer shared by a Mac computer. For example, to print a webpage in Safari, all you have to do is touch the button button, then touch print. This feature first requires you to turn on printer sharing on a Mac computer, so it is pretty much useless for Windows users, but it’s still a pretty neat feature.

AirPlay

A second new feature introduced in iOS 4.2 is AirPlay. This feature allows you to stream digital media wirelessly to your Apple TV. This means that you can instantly switch a movie you are watching on your iPad to your Apple TV when you return home from a trip, or blast your music from your iPod Touch out of your TV’s speakers from any room in the house. It also allows you to play movies and TV shows rented on your iPad or iPhone on your Apple TV, which was impossible to do before. This feature could boost sales of the Apple TV before and during the holiday season, as it adds new and helpful features and ties the Apple TV to Apple’s more successful products.

Find My Device

Find My Device, a cool feature that used to be bundled with the MobileMe suite (which requires a $100 dollar per year subscription), is now offered on the app store for free if you update to iOS 4.2. Although this is incompatible with the iPhone 3GS, this app is very helpful if you misplace your iPhone 4 or iPad.
Find Text

Now you can search for text within Mobile Safari. This feature, although minor, is very helpful and I’m surprised it was not offered on previous versions of iOS.

Overall, this was a very important update for the iPad, and added many new, long awaited features to every Apple iDevice such as printing and streaming to an Apple TV.
