What’s changed with Apple with Tim Cook?

After Steve Jobs, Tim Cook took over as Apple’s new CEO. Tim Cook brought about very subtle changes to Apple ever since taking the position as CEO. When working with Steve Jobs, they both disagreed about certain components of the company.
One thing that Tim Cook had in mind was using Apple’s cash to pay a dividend or  to buy back stock. Steve Jobs did not agree with that, but now with Tim Cook in control, things may change.

Tim Cook also set up a charity program. Apple isn’t known to be charitable and Steve Jobs wasn’t into giving away Apple’s money. The program is a match employee contributions to non-profits program. It matches up to $10,000.

It was also noted that Tim Cook emails more frequently and addresses Apple as a “Team.” He also promoted Eddy Cue to senior vice president of cloud services. Other changes include dividing up the company’s education division into sales and marketing groups.

With Tim Cook as the new leader of Apple, people are keeping their eyes open as to see what else he will do next. Without the creativity of Steve Jobs, will the company be able to maintain its products and services?

Feel free to leave questions or comments.

1,000,000 shares to stay at Apple

Apple’s board of directors has given the new CEO of Apple; Tim Cook 1,000,000 restricted stock units of Apple. Restricted stock units (RSU) are a form of equity compensation used in stock compensation programs. The RSU does not take into effect until the person is awarded them at a given time. The person who is awarded the RSU’s has the right to cash them or stock them. The board of directors did this to in order to have Tim Cook stay until at least 2021. Tim Cook will not get all of the shares at once though. He will receive the first half in August 2015. Then he will get the other half in 2021. Tim Cook will only get these shares if he stays with Apple. If Tim Cook stays with Apple and gets his 1,000,000 shares, he could possibly make over $383 million. With the market at where it’s at right now, it is uncertain if that number goes up or down.

Even though Steve Jobs’ has stepped down from CEO, he will still be an employee of Apple. Steve Jobs’ resignation last week was not unexpected. Jobs’ has had many health issues since he was CEO of Apple and while Steve Jobs’ was on medical leave, Tim Cook filled in for him. The suggestion that Apple will falter without Jobs’ is absurd.  When Jobs’ was gone in the beginning of the year, Apple was still going strong. Also, Jobs’ is still with Apple as chairman of the board of directors. Jobs’ has also set Apple up for the next decade or so to be a great company. I believe that just because Jobs’ is not CEO, this does not mean Apple will fall. Tim Cook will do an excellent job as the new CEO. I would also bet that Jobs’ will help Tim Cook if he asks for it.

Steve Jobs on medical leave?

You all know that Apple makes great products such as the Mac and the iPod, but there is one thing you should all know. Everyone knows that Steve Jobs is the iconic figure for Apple. Steve Jobs is the co-founder and CEO at Apple. Everyone knows that without Steve Jobs, Apple would be very different. On January 17, 2011, Steve Jobs announced he would take his third medical leave in less than six years. With Steve Jobs taking medical leave, people can’t help but speculate what will happen if Steve Jobs leaves Apple for good. Apple’s stock always drops when Steve Jobs takes a medical leave of absence. Jobs also mentioned that he will still take part in the company’s major strategic decisions. Why is Steve Jobs so important? Apple is very unique when it comes to its products. Steve Jobs has an exceptional talent for creating new products that people want and love. He is able to think of various ideas and make it happen.

If Steve Job’s leaves, someone else will have to replace him. Will that person be just as good as Steve Jobs or better? While Steve Jobs is out on medical leave, COO Tim Cook has stepped in to take his place. Cook is known to focus on the company’s supply chain. Cook is also an important figure at Apple because his role in the company’s supply chain has made it so there are enough Apple products to meet the demand, while making sure there aren’t a ton of unsold products lying around. Maybe Tim Cook will replace Steve Jobs permanently if Steve Jobs leaves Apple. Not much is known about who will succeed Jobs after he finally decides to leave Apple for good.

When Steve Jobs sent the email to all Apple employees about his leave of absence, he asked for people to respect his privacy. Do you think people will really respect his privacy? There are many out there that want to know why he is taking a medical leave of absence and what is going to happen to Jobs. There are many who believe that Jobs should not have been given a liver two years ago. People believe that Jobs was given the liver due to his advantage of being a powerful, wealthy figure and that the liver might have been able to save someone else’s life who may have been on the waiting list for the liver. People want answers, and I don’t think they will respect Steve Jobs privacy.

What do you think?
