Engraving your iPod

Here is just an example of what you can write.

Recently, Apple has added a new feature to their portable devices. On any new Ipod Touch, or IPad, you can engrave a personal message on the back, free of charge. Sample messages range from anything like “Happy Birthday” to “Who needs a Mistletoe”. This service is only available at the Apple Online Store. The link to that site is <http://www.apple.com/>. To fully access this service online, I have included a step by step tutorial if you wanted to write “Real Mac Genius” on a brand new iPad.  From the homepage of apple.com, look at the toolbar at the top of the screen and click on “Store”. From there, many pictures show up in the middle of the screen. Click on the one labeled “iPad”. Then another page opens with different GB options. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will want a 16GB iPad with 3G access. It will then open up to a very confusing page with all the options. DO NOT spend time here looking for your personalized message. Choose which accessories you would like, and then hit continue, which will be in a toolbar on the right side of the screen under the title “Summary”. Here, you can enter your two line engraving and then have it shipped to you within 24 hours. In Conclusion, this new feature allows you to have some way of knowing that it is truly, your iPad or iPhone.

Google Docs optimized for iOS Viewing

After yesterday’s announcement of the official Google Voice application for iPhone, Google has kept iOS fans on the edge. The official Google Docs blog announced a updated version of the Google Docs interface for mobile devices, particularly the iPhone. By pointing your mobile browser to http://docs.google.com/m, you have access to the “mobile-optimized versions” of your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. However, these features will only be accessible from the iPhone for now with read-only privileges. Bummer!

Hopefully, Google will implement editing on the iPhone and bring these features to the rest of the iOS family. For any regular Google Doc user, like us at The Real Mac Genius.com comes in handy!

The Mac Pro. 12 cores. Fast.

The Mac Pro delivers more processing power, more graphics performance, and more storage availability. It is pretty much a super computer. The Mac Pro offers two advanced processor options from Intel, the Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor and the “Westmere” series. “Nehalem” is available in a single-processor, quad-core configuration at speeds of up to 3.2GHz. “Westmere” is available in both quad-core and 6-core versions. The Mac Pro comes with one or two processors to make a total 12-core system if you like. Often, system memory is connected to a processor through a separate I/O controller. Unlike in typical computers, the Mac Pro’s Intel processors feature an integrated memory controller, giving the processors faster access to data stored in memory. The Mac Pro also features Turbo Boost, a dynamic performance technology that increases the speed of active processors. The Intel Xeon processors support Hyper-Threading, which allows two threads to run per core.

The Mac Pro also comes with high-performance graphics cards from AMD. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory comes standard. You also have the option to upgrade to the ATI Radeon HD 5870 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory. The Mac Pro comes with an enormous amount of storage, up to 8TB. You also have the option to add up to four 512GB solid-state drives, which have no moving parts and are capable of accessing data speeds up to 230MB per second. The Mac Pro RAID Card with 512MB of RAID cache, a 72-hour cache-protecting battery, and hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 0+1 enhance SATA hard drive performance and data protection. The Mac Pro also comes with one 18x SuperDrive, but you have the option to upgrade to get another.

In general, the Mac Pro is one of the fastest computers out there. Released on August 2010, the new Mac Pro comes with various different options and can be customized to fit your lifestyle. Does it sound like the computer for you? What do you think?

Best Mac Setups: MacBook Pro and iMac

This week I am going to do something new, and instead of giving you my usual tip or trick I am going to show you some cool MacBook Pro and Mac setups.

Let’s get started talking about this first photo of the MacBook Pro setup. In this photo you see a 13-inch MacBook Pro being held up by a stand, an apple wireless keyboard, a 17-inch Samsung monitor mounted on the wall, speakers on the side, and a mouse. Some things that I like about this is how the screen is mounted on the wall and how much extra desk space that gives you. Something that would make this set up better would be if you mounted the speakers on the wall too, get a larger desk, and add a printer on an extra table.

This one might seem a lot better then the previous setup and I do agree. In this photo there are three Apple Cinema Displays, a Mac Pro, an iSight, speaker system, and a 13-inch MacBook. I don’t kno

w where to start so I will start with the triple action Cinema Display that gives you tons of room to multitask with, and on top of the third Cinema Display to the left i

s an iSight. Then there is an extra MacBook that comes in handy for travel. Also if you haven’t notice they have a very cool and comfortable looking chair to sit in. There isn’t very much that you need to change with this setup, but one thing that I would change would be to add a Powermat so that you can charge your phone and iPod with no messy wires.

What do you think? Leave a comment below and let us know.
