Make MacBook and MacBook Pro Backlight Keyboard Dance

Here is a neat Monday trick. Have you every wanted to make your MacBook or MacBook Pro keyboard dance? Even thought about it? Neither did I, but after I saw this neat trick I had to write about it!

iSpazz is a plugin that you install by uncompressing the .zip file and moving the plugin to ~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins. If you are new to Mac OS X, the ~ stands for your home folder. So, on my computer where I would copy the iTunes Plugin would be Nick/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins. It is an extremely cool plugin because your keyboard will light up in sync with your currently playing track. Pretty cool!

Once you add iSpazz, in iTunes go to View>Visualizer>iSpazz. Play a track, and prepare to party. If you are a DJ, this would be extremely cool, especially if you are using a Mac to power your media.

Insane Mac Home Office

Most kids have dreams of what they’ll do or be when they grow up: some dream of becoming doctors and curing cancers, others of becoming police officers and catching criminals. But, I do not know how many people dream of having a home office like Mitch. If they haven’t, they might well soon!

Because Mitch spends most of his time telecommuting with his coworkers, he decided to build a home office that fit his needs, and then some! This home office is amazing! It comes complete with small data center, snack bar, reading area and, of course, a place for his magnificent army of computers!

The envy of any computer geek, he has a Mac Pro with 12GBs of ram, 8TBs of storage and 3 video cards. That does not include his MacBook Pro connected to a 30″ monitor and a 80″ projector that he repaired! Over the top? NEVER!

Kindly enough, he has written a FAQ about his home office in case YOU want to remake his office.

Google becoming ISP!

That’s right! Google has helped search the internet, and now they’re trying their hand at pumping it into your computer!

Promising comparatively fast speeds at up to 1 GPS (Gigabit Per Second), Google has begun experimenting with their own fiber optic network, urged on by the curiosity to see what developers and users can do with ultrafast speeds.

The secret to these speeds is in the wires. By using fiber optic cables, Google claims their Internet will be up to 100 times faster than all other Internet providers. They also plan on making it an open Internet so other service providers can allow their users to use Google’s Internet.

If you are a government official or Google fanatical citizen looking to have them run fiber optic cable to your computer, you can nominate your community here.

What are your thoughts of Google becoming an ISP? Leave a comment.

Favorites of MacWorld 2010

A cool MacWorld 2010 Pic At MacWorld, we were able to meet great people, and see awesome products. From the lucky people who were able to attend, we compiled our favorites from MacWorld 2010. We saw tons of iPhone/iPod Touch apps, Mac screens, cases, software, as well as iPhone and iPod touch items. We are very thankful that we were able to attend MacWorld 2010.

Nick: Just attending MacWorld was amazing enough. But, to be more specific, I enjoyed talking and meeting different Vendors, such as Codeweavers and CrashPlan. My favorite part of the day was talking with Matthew Dornquast (Interview to be up shortly), because he was able to answer programming questions that I could not find the answer. Also, walking around the Mobile Applications area was exciting in itself. Meeting developers of applications such as BeejiveIM and Microsoft Bing –  Though I am still an Apple lover. At the end of the day, I was intrigued with a projector gadget from Mili, that projects movies. At the end of the day, I wish we were able to stay longer, but next year we will.

Zander: I enjoyed seeing so many different vendors and seeing all this interesting material made for Macs.  I think one favorite thing was the screen protectors for my MacBook.  I always get frustrated with the glare on my computer sometimes and that is an easy fix without buying a new computer.  Finally, another interesting product I saw at MacWorld was the miniature Mili iPhone/iPod projector.  It was cool how a tiny case doubled as a projector.  It was a great experience for everyone at MacWorld.

Kyle: This was a great first Macworld for us. All of us had a great time but I found that our interview with CodeWeavers was the most memorable for all of us. I really enjoyed talking to Kanex about all of Apple’s flaws :). Kanex has been improving on all of the many flaws by creating many better alternatives to the basic apple cables. As our site grows, we will be able to expand and soon be able to attend Macworld more often and for more than one day, We hope to see everyone out there next year!

Is Your Dock in Need of an Extreme Makeover?

If your dock is unorganized and cluttered then these two commands are for you.  The first command allows you to add an invisible space that gives room between applications.  The second is a command that makes the application minimize into the application in the dock instead of next to the trash can.  Again, to be a Real Mac Genius type in the commands.

Add in an invisible space:

1. Type in the following command into terminal: defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'

2. Next insert the command: killall Dock

Minimize Applications into their icon:

1. Type in the command: defaults write com.apple.dock minimize-to-application -bool yes

2.  Type in the command: killall Dock

Now your dock will be a little less cluttered thanks to these two simple commands.
