Apple has recently upgraded its iLife package in the new iLife 11. This new package allows for many new options. Inside the package are the upgraded forms of iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. These upgrades include full-screen views and a multitude of other improvements. For example, in iPhoto, you can now see all your works in an easy to use display, as well as a one click editor for photos. Also, in iMovie, you can create movie trailers out of home videos, and only have to drag and drop to make a movie and edit audio. In GarageBand, you can use GrooveMatching and FlexTime to create new music and you can test your skills while you are learning how to play an instrument. All of these features come together to create the new and improved iLife. Basically, this years update is well worth the money because of all of these new features.

Engraving your iPod

Recently, Apple has added a new feature to their portable devices. On any new Ipod Touch, or IPad, you can engrave a personal message on the back, free of charge. Sample messages range from anything like “Happy Birthday” to “Who needs a Mistletoe”. This service is only available at the Apple Online Store. The link to that site is <http://www.apple.com/>. To fully access this service online, I have included a step by step tutorial if you wanted to write “Real Mac Genius” on a brand new iPad. From the homepage of apple.com, look at the toolbar at the top of the screen and click on “Store”. From there, many pictures show up in the middle of the screen. Click on the one labeled “iPad”. Then another page opens with different GB options. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will want a 16GB iPad with 3G access. It will then open up to a very confusing page with all the options. DO NOT spend time here looking for your personalized message. Choose which accessories you would like, and then hit continue, which will be in a toolbar on the right side of the screen under the title “Summary”. Here, you can enter your two line engraving and then have it shipped to you within 24 hours. In Conclusion, this new feature allows you to have some way of knowing that it is truly, your iPad or iPhone.
Google Docs optimized for iOS Viewing
After yesterday’s announcement of the official Google Voice application for iPhone, Google has kept iOS fans on the edge. The official Google Docs blog announced a updated version of the Google Docs interface for mobile devices, particularly the iPhone. By pointing your mobile browser to http://docs.google.com/m, you have access to the “mobile-optimized versions” of your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. However, these features will only be accessible from the iPhone for now with read-only privileges. Bummer!
Hopefully, Google will implement editing on the iPhone and bring these features to the rest of the iOS family. For any regular Google Doc user, like us at The Real Mac Genius.com comes in handy!

Have you ever had a hard time typing on you iPhone, iPod Touch or even iPad, or just wanted to type faster. Here is a quick tip that can save you time and will allow you to type a little less. If you ever have to type .com, .org, .net, .edu, or .us on the iphone, then try holding down the “.” for a second and you should be present with a few different choice to choose from. However, if you are on the iPad, hold down the “.com” key and it will show you the .org, .edu, and .net buttons. This works in both Safari and Mail. Holding the key down for about a second works on a few different keys. Go ahead and check it out, and save yourself a little bit of time.
