What I will concede is the important role jailbreakers played in bringing some of these features to the iPhone. For example, it's irrelevant whether Apple actually found a way to integrate multitasking without hurting battery life. More importantly, hackers played the part of bringing the public desire for multitasking to the forefront. I might even argue that the advancement of maintaining battery life despite multitasking, if they have ACTUALLY found a way to do so, was in fact brought about by this common will. If so, Apple has been made better by the masses -- their constituency has brought innovation to Apple. It's like I said back in my first article for the Geniuses entitled iHacked: "Apple depends upon the innovation of its Research & Development teams just as much as it depends upon the ingenuity of the hackers at large – dragging Apple, kicking and screaming, to become a better technology company."

I’m going to agree with Nick on this one. I believe with Apple implementing these features is a way to persuade users not to jailbreak. Unlike multitasking through backgrouder available through Cydia, Apple's version of jailbreaking is much nicer and cleaner. Granted, backgrounder developers were not able to change things like accepting a Skype call from the Lockscreen. I think that Google is showing Apple that it is going to compete with them, and it should be a great battle.

I agree that OS 4.0 is adding features that were already accessible through jailbreaking. Stacks we need to manually add more ourselves if we want more than 4. Folders just raises the limits. But almost everything that is in 4.0 we have had since 3.0 (and some earlier) thanks to jailbreak.

We have had Multitasking since 3.0 thanks to Jailbreak <img
